OM2 Fibre uses an LED light source with a core size of 50 µm. It also supports 10 Gigabit ethernet applications up to a distance of 82 meters, but is usually used in 1 Gigabit ethernet scenarios.

OM stands for “Optical Multimode,” and OM2 is a specific classification indicating the type of multimode fiber. OM2 fiber is optimized for use with LED-based light sources and is capable of handling higher bandwidth than earlier OM1 fibers. The first number (50 µm) represents the core diameter, and the second number (125 µm) represents the cladding diameter. This is a common multimode fiber specification
